The Yunus Emre Institute Had Fruitful Discussions With Mrs. İnci Mercan On Culture And Diversity


Washington D.C. - On May 27th, The Yunus Emre Institute in Washington D.C. welcomed the spouse of the new ambassador to Turkey, Mrs. İnci Mercan. The Yunus Emre Institute greeted her and her staff as they entered the institute to discuss some upcoming events and projects. After exchanging a few small gifts, which is customary in Turkish culture when hosting guests, Mrs. Mercan took a tour of the office and sat down to discuss the institute’s programs.



During her visit, the Yunus Emre Institute staff presented Mrs. Mercan with an overview of some past events. Since the start of the Washington D.C. branch of the Yunus Emre Institute in 2017, many events have been successfully completed. An assortment of examples from previous events were shown to Mrs. Mercan during her visit. For instance, Mrs. Mercan was able to see the value and importance of programs like Embassy Adoption Day. This is a special program that lets elementary school students learn about Turkish culture and play a fun jeopardy game to review what they learned.


To continue the Institute’s work and further its vision, Mrs. Mercan is interested in working with the Institute. There are a variety of upcoming events throughout Summer and Autumn where Mrs. Mercan and the Turkish Embassy can play a critical role in sharing Turkish culture with the Washington D.C. community. The Yunus Emre Institute staff and Mrs. Mercan also discussed how the institute and the Turkish Embassy could continue their work to broadcast the vision of Turkish cultural diplomacy to an even broader audience.


The Yunus Emre Institute in Washington D.C. is looking forward to working closely with the Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C. As the Republic of Turkey’s official Turkish cultural center, the Yunus Emre Institute will collaborate with the Turkish Embassy on a number of upcoming programs from 2021 through 2022 and beyond.
